Ooh, Gravity Rocks…

Return of the Chimera
© 2008 Ian Roure

Ant-lion or spider-goat
Myth of the past or what’s soon to come?
You prep your microscope
I doubt we’re prepared for what you’ve begun
Down in the complex
Breeding tomorrow’s guinea pigs
With a brand new twist

Bright eyed and transgenetic
Return of the Chimera
Now comes in partly human
Oh oh-oh-oh oh

No need to be afraid
These mystical beasts are here to save lives
No need to hunt and slay
They’re made and contained
They’re in till they die
Down in the complex
On sight they’re just like rats and mice
The difference is inside

Bright eyed and transgenetic
Return of the Chimera
Now comes in partly human
Oh oh-oh-oh oh

Of course we know what we’re doing
We’ll know when we’ve crossed that line
‘Till then we’re crossing creatures and man
We’ve always taken nature in hand

Bright eyed and transgenetic
Return of the Chimera
Now comes in partly human
Oh oh-oh-oh oh

Accidental Planet
© 2008 Ian Roure

It's a bit on the broken side thanks to us
The sentient species in a corner of the cosmos
On an accidental planet

Accidental Planet

And we're so lucky, you and I
To be here at all
In a corner of the cosmos
On an accidental planet

Accidental Planet

No time to hang about
Got to stop world plunder
We're under deconstruction
and no one else is gonna come and fix it for us

On an accidental planet
Accidental, accidental, accidental planet
No one else is gonna come and fix it for us

Extreme Ape

Millions of years ago we were more or less the same
Now you would hardly know us though some say that it’s a shame
Left you livin’ in the forest while we built our cities and towns
Once we start to evolve baby we don’t mess around

(Extreme Ape) Like an uber gorilla
(Extreme Ape) Monster chimp
(Extreme Ape) They’ve got nothing on us
(Extreme Ape) We’re pushing the edge
E-X-T-R-E-M-E

We’ll always love you though we have clearly moved along
We’ll always be the smart ones though sometimes we are so wrong
You’ve done wonders with your sticks and your stones got your culinary ways
We’ve been cooking up a banquet though we’re hungry every day

Cell Phone or Schizo
© 2008 Ian Roure

Here he comes down 23rd street with his flailing arms
He’s screaming to himself as he pays no heed to the people passing by

Cell phone or Schizo? It’s really hard to know
Cell phone or Schizo? Cell phone or Schizo?

So you’re looking for those little ear phones – anybody at home?
Any wires hanging down underneath his coat where a mobile phone might be…

Cell phone or Schizo? It’s really hard to know
Cell phone or Schizo? Cell phone or Schizo?

Why are there so many schizos on the street? Why are there so many schizos there to meet?
Cell phone or Schizo?

That's Where You're Wrong, Carruthers
© 2008 Ian Roure

Down in the old center for dizziness we treat our sanity
Me and Carruthers every night made a complete recovery
Swimming in ideas till we’d run aground

Carruthers has to calculate the pay and dollars owed
Equating inspiration with taxation and cash flow

We’re going for a song, you’re gonna tag along
That’s Where You’re Wrong, Carruthers

Down in the old center for dizziness we buy another round
Me and Carruthers kept our spirits up until they got shot down
By unfriendly fire over concerns for our wealth

Carruthers has to calculate the pay and dollars owed
Equating inspiration with taxation and cash flow

We’re going for a song, you’re gonna tag along
That’s Where You’re Wrong, Carruthers

Carruthers you jumped upon the option to invest in wild cat stock
Pity the cat wasn’t as wild as you thought
And you gazed upon the high ground, but you soon had rather not
You never really bought that fine and noble rot
You never really bought that fine and noble rot

In the Sphere of the Prime Mover
© 2008 Ian Roure

In the Sphere of the Prime Mover who travels in those circles anyway?
Deities and souls who’ve crossed over – or it the domain of DNA?

As we travel in circles and concentric spheres
And retrograde motion down here

You may want to drag us back
You may preach as if it’s fact
Why it’s worth coming to blows;
No one really knows

You may think you know whose hand turns the heavens and the rack
But since no report’s come back
No one really knows
No one really knows
No one really knows

In the Sphere of the Prime Mover who travels in those circles anyway?

Copernican Principle
© 2008 Ian Roure

Copernican Principle they’re still picking at you
Some notions are hard to accept no matter how true
I thought that we’d got this straight when Watson and Crick
Unraveled the secret of life from a helix twist

Copernican Principle: aren’t you skeptics a little late?
You can’t send the knowledge back once it’s got past the starting gate
Copernican Principle ain’t goin’ away

Copernicus started it all: figured out that we are
One of several large chunks of rock that go around a star
Copernicus started it all but others followed trough
Galileo, Darwin et al bruised egos too

Copernican Principle: first the earth turns out to be round
Then Ptolemy’s universe crumbles on shaky ground
Copernican Principle brought everyone ‘round

Don’t you wish that you could wake up find it’s been a dream
With the earth still at the center of your cosmic scheme
Don’t you want to turn back time, play down progress and all that can bring?

But you can’t get past Copernicus! You can’t get past Copernicus!

 Red Planet Express
© 2008 Ian Roure

Utopia Planitia settlement at eight
I hurry down walkway 15 always running late
Prospectors in heated suits head towards the gate
And then we're off across rusty terrain

Red Planet Express train leaving the airlock
Red Planet Express train: take this armchair astronaut

Change at Terra Tyrrhena for the Hellas mines
The prospectors get up to go, I stay on this line
Watching landscape that's speeding past jagged, red and wide
Until the Tharsis space ports come in sight

Red Planet Express train approaching the airlock
Red Planet Express train: take this armchair astronaut

 Radio Free Alpha Centauri
© 2008 Ian Roure

Radio Free Alpha Centauri dead air on the frequency
Radio Free Alpha Centauri calling the antenna king
Over…

Out here in deep space nothing’s for sure
Commence EVA step through the door
Searching the void for a shortcut next-door

Radio Free Alpha Centauri dead air on the frequency
Radio Free Alpha Centauri calling the antenna king
Over…

Out here in deep space we float on a line
Tie-in Super String the theory sounds fine
Searching the void for a shortcut through time

Radio Free Alpha Centauri dead air on the frequency
Radio Free Alpha Centauri calling the antenna king
Over…calling over…
